The Georgetown Steam Plant's inaugural Science Fair was an incredible experience. With over 70 participants showcasing their projects, and an estimated 3,000+ attendees over the two-day event, we far surpassed our initial expectations.
As a celebration grounded in SHTEAM (Science, History, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), our special focus in 2024 was on circular economy, creative reuse, and the built environment. The fair showcased the talent and creativity of our community of families and friends.
We are incredibly grateful to all of our participants, volunteers, sponsors, and attendees who made this event a success
To make the Science Fair a reality, the team at the Georgetown Steam Plant faced a significant challenge. In the weeks leading up to the event, the King County Fire Marshall determined that modifications were necessary to allow for public access to the Boiler Room. These modifications included raising existing railing on the second floor by 6 inches and constructing an egress from the Boiler Room.
Thanks to the dedicated team at Equinox Studios and the Georgetown Steam Plant CDA these modifications were completed just in time for the Science Fair. Their tireless work ensured the safety and accessibility of the event for all attendees.
The successful completion of these modifications not only allowed the Science Fair to proceed as planned but it also improved the overall safety and functionality of the Georgetown Steam Plant. This is a significant win for the community, as it enables the Steam Plant to host larger gatherings and events.
The Georgetown Steam Plant Science Fair is a testament to the power of community, collaboration, and a shared passion for the wonders of SHTEAM.
